How did you find out about Warwick?

Well, my cousin is a Warwick alumni and it was one of my goals at the beginning of high school to join Warwick. Back then, I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to study but I did know that Warwick was one of my top choices.

Did you consider studying anywhere else? What made you choose Warwick?

London, being one of the financial capitals of the world, whetted my appetite and seemed like an ideal place to pursue an education in finance and accounting. I value the diversity it has to offer, but I feared being overwhelmed and lost in a city of such magnitude. It then boiled down to choosing a university that would provide me with a world-class education, while also providing me with a sense of community. Warwick, in particular, drew my attention not only because of its rankings and connections in the commerce industry but also because it gave me the opportunity for undertaking a placement year.

How did you feel to be awarded a scholarship?

I was overjoyed; I honestly couldn't believe it and I was relieved that I would be able to help my family out financially.

Who was the first person you told when you received the news about your scholarship and how did they react?

I went up to my mother and acted like I just heard back from Warwick and got rejected for my scholarship application, and then broke the news to her and my father. They were so happy and gave me far too many celebratory hugs.

How did you apply and did anyone help you with your application form and visa application?

I filled out my visa application myself, and my family contacted an agency to help me out if I had any difficulties. The only problem was the amount of time my visa took to arrive, since there was a backlog in the UKVI offices. It was quite stressful in all honesty, but the fact that I could quarantine on campus made the aftermath of getting my visa far easier.

What was your first impression of Warwick when you first walked around campus?

I was awestruck - it felt like a dream coming true being able to actually see the art centre and piazza in person rather than picture after picture. Despite the long travel from India, I was overcome with energy and excitement upon arriving. The next morning when I explored the campus with a few friends I had met through the Warwick groups, I realised that pictures could never do justice to the beauty and magnitude of the campus.

What is the best thing about Warwick?

The home-like feeling, I absolutely love how many options we have on campus in terms of food, nights out, sports facilities, learning centres, everything one could possibly imagine

What is the worst thing?

The wifi.

How is your accommodation?

I live on campus, in Bluebell. It's quite nice in all honesty, but quieter than I expected it to be. Plus, it's pretty close to the central campus which is another major plus point.

Are you a member of any societies? If so, what have you done with them?

Well, so far I've joined the Warwick Skate Society, WHFS, and I'm planning on joining the piano society (so that I don't forget how to play), along with the salsa and skiing society.

What are your plans when you graduate?

I've read countless stories about WBS graduates going to work for some of the most renowned banks from around the world, such as JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs, which is what I’d like to do as well. This would bring me one step closer to realising my dream of starting my own investment banking firm.

What would you say to someone considering applying for an Undergraduate Global Excellence scholarship at Warwick, what would it be?

Not to wait until the last minute to start writing their application.
