Discover Sofia's journey at Warwick and what led them to apply for BEng Engineering. |
How did you find out about Warwick?
I heard about Warwick through my older sister when we were visiting Universities for her. I was only 15 and I already knew I wanted to go to Warwick!
Did you consider studying anywhere else? What made you choose Warwick?
I chose Warwick because of its fantastic reputation, the technology and infrastructure of the campus, and the excellent learning environment.
How did you feel to be awarded a scholarship?
Being awarded the Global Excellence Scholarship was an honour. I felt very happy to be part of a University that cares about its students.
Who was the first person you told when you received the news about your scholarship and how did they react?
My parents! They were very proud of me and we all had a special dinner that night.
How did you apply and did anyone help you with your application form and visa application?
I had to carry out my visa application by myself. I never thought it would take that long! I learned a lot of patience in the process.
What was your first impression of Warwick when you first walked around campus?
I first walked around campus when I came to visit at 15 years old. I was astonished! I had never seen a University like this before. It is like an amusement park for brilliant students.
What is the best thing about Warwick?
The environment. Everyone seems so passionate about what they are doing. It is truly motivating to see so many students so engaged with all that the University has to offer.
What is the worst thing?
I don't have a single class or seminar or meeting in person. I understand this is difficult as we are 350 students in the engineering department. Hopefully this can change in the future!
How is your accommodation?
I am staying at Arthur Vick, it is a very good accommodation, clean and modern. I am really comfortable.
Are you a member of any societies?
I have been chosen fresher representative for the WBSS and I have applied for a role in the exec team. I have also joined the Engineers Without Borders group.
What are your plans when you graduate?
I am applying for spring weeks to have insights in several companies. I want to learn more about my opportunities and try to make the most out of these!
What would you say to someone considering applying for an Undergraduate Global Excellence scholarship at Warwick, what would it be?
Truly write with passion! Show your excitement and how much you love Warwick!
What one thing makes you happy about Warwick?
The opportunities here. It is really a place where you can grow. I have learned so much so quickly, I think that's great!
