Dry Mixed Recycling
Why is Recycling Important?
It is possible to reuse aluminium again, again...and again. Around 75% of the almost 1.5 billion tonnes of aluminium ever produced is still in productive use today. Recycling aluminium requires up to 95% less energy than production from ore, avoiding emissions, including greenhouse gases.
Scientists estimate that only around 9 percent Link opens in a new windowof all the plastic waste generated globally is recycled. We can do better than that!
The University's waste partner, Biffa, operates a closed loop recycling system. In this process waste is collected, recycled and produced to make something new. Effectively, the waste does a full circle without having a negative impact on the environment. These recycled materials are used widely throughout the UK. Did you know that Biffa's recycled plastic features in over 80% of milk bottles, which are manufactured using their polymers?
Recycling is good... but we can do better!
