City Nature Challenge

Thank you to everyone who attended the walks on campus as part of the City Nature Challenge weekend.

We had over 20 people attend across the day, recording 264 observations of 146 different species. With the support of ecologists from Coventry City Council and the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust we searched in leaf litter, looked in bug hotels, swept through the long grass and listened to the birds. Some species recorded were Willow Flea-Beetle (shown below), Bistorts and Marsh Marigold. The walks were not only great for helping us to understand more about what’s on campus but they were also enjoyed by all and enhanced our wellbeing.

We will be continuing with species surveys over the summer with lunchtime walks every month. The next walk will take place on 20th June between 1-2pm and booking is now open- sign up here. We also strongly encourage people to continue to record what they see on campus using the iNaturalist app, which we can then add to our own records.
