Term 2 Food Drive Recap
On Thursday the 28th March 2024, we have delivered 125 kilograms of food to Trussell Trust Coventry Food BankLink opens in a new window that were donated by the student residents of Jack Martin and Arthur Vick accommodation blocks.
Since 2019, through different schemes, we’ve donated over 5 tonnes of food to food banks, donated over 20 tonnes of kitchenware (and other small items) to and raised over £5,000 for local charities.
With the help of Warwick VolunteersLink opens in a new window, we have run a Food DriveLink opens in a new window during the final two weeks of Term 2 (4-16 March 2024) and collected unwanted non-perishable food items.
Running up to the Food Drive, we have encouraged students to reduce food waste in a number of waste – tips included taking their unused items home, batch cook with their flatmates, and use search engines that suggests recipes based on what’s in their cupboards. We have also promoted that by donating food students can reduce their environmental impact, help their local community, and contribute to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
Each person’s commitment to contributing —whether through donations, encouraging their flatmates, collecting food, or helping spread the word — played an integral role in the success of this initiative. Thank you!
