University of Warwick Nursery awarded Eco-Schools Green Flag Award!
Congratulations to the nursery on campus who have been awarded their second Eco-Schools Green Flag Award! They focused their efforts on three topics, which were Water, Improving Nursery Grounds, and Global Citizenship.
Various projects were created to try and be more sustainable and teach children about the value of nature. Water projects implemented included older children becoming water warriors (where they focused on saving water both in the nursery and at home). Water that was left over after mealtimes was used to water indoor plants, instead of running fresh water from the tap to do this.
Improving nursery grounds projects included the children taking part in litter picking on campus, teaching children the value of cleaning up the environment whilst cleaning up rubbish. Indoor plants were put in all playrooms, which is a great way to incorporate nature indoors.
Global Citizenship initiatives included 20 bags of warm clothing being collected in one week to be donated to the Syria and Turkey earthquake appeal. Furthermore, Canley Food Hub was supported as over 200 easter eggs were donated in April as well as other items, and the children were taught about why helping others is important.
Feedback from the Eco-Schools Team included “We love the range of activities that you and your Eco-Committee planned for delivery. The fact that they cover both indoor (a ‘switch-off taps’ campaign, plants in every playroom and Fair Trade drinks in the staffroom) and outdoor (installing water butts, planting fruit and vegetables, rewilding an area and supporting a local food bank) activities is excellent. “
A huge congratulations to the team at the Nursery for all their work! What a brilliant achievement.
