Evaluating Public Engagement: One-Day Workshop

Join us for an interactive workshop designed to equip you with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to evaluate your public engagement activities effectively. This hands-on session will guide you through the strategic, practical, and analytical aspects of evaluation. This would a great session for anyone looking to develop their evaluation skills as they grow their experience of engagement, and anyone thinking about planning a public engagement project, especially those who want to publish about their work.

Engaging through Collections
Monday 20 April, 10am - 1pm - Faculty of Arts Building
This workshop will give you the tools to communicate the stories of your research through objects, in collaboration with galleries, libraries, archives and museums. Interactive exercises will suggest ways to unlock material literacy using close looking, creative responses, and display-making. Participants will also learn the practical essentials of object handling and how to navigate collections with confidence.
Hands on Engagement

This workshop will guide you through the ways to create engaging hands on activities based on your research or your area of work. Through exercises and interaction participants will gain understanding of how to communicate more effectively whatever the setting. Ideal for groups or individuals working towards an event or looking for new ideas to share their work.
A Practical Introduction to Citizen Science
Friday 8 May, 10am - 12:30pm - Online
This training session will introduce you to the theory, history and practice of citizen science and scientific crowdsourcing. Then take you through the key practical questions to think about when planning and running a citizen science activity, using examples from real projects. The session will include a comfort break midway through.

Introduction to Evaluation Strategy, Methods and Practice
Wednesday 6 May, 1:15-2:45pm - Ramphal
This introductory session will introduce you to key ideas around evaluation practice, why we conduct evaluation, and how this can be beneficial to you. We will explore a model for thinking about public engagement activities strategically and set out what your individual measures of success are.
Practical Evaluation Tools and Resources

This more practical session builds on the introductory ideas of session one, providing you with the tools to conduct effective and meaningful evaluation of your public engagement activities. We will explore resources available and how they can be best used to assess your measures of success.
Understanding and Presenting Data
Wednesday 3 June, 1:15-2:45pm - Ramphal
This final session will explore the types of data you can yield from evaluation methods, and how you can best analyse this. We will explore key data analysis tools and how to draw insights from this data in order to answer questions about the success of your public engagement activity.
Podcasting for Engagement
Monday 8 June, 10am - 4pm - Ramphal
Podcasting can be a powerful tool to engage with difficult-to-reach audiences, expand professional networks and become established as an authority in your field. In this training, you'll learn about the tools you need to create compelling podcasts about research, to engage with different audiences, and increase your overall impact. As well as discussing the creation of an engaging narrative, this session will also teach you the all the practicalities of audio production you need to get started on your own.

Warwick Institute of Engagement runs a year round events programme known as Resonate. We are always looking for staff and students to take part in our events. We will support with costs for this, as well as supporting you through the process with activity design, development and rehearsal.
