Mobile email

Most modern mobile phones can be used to send and receive email; they can be set up in the same way as any other email client, using the instructions on the ITS email web pages.

‘Modern authentication’

Most users require a sophisticated email-on-phone service, where email is continuously sent to the phone, and where additional data such as calendars, contacts, tasks and so on can also be shared between the desktop and the phone. Phones which support OAuth 2.0-based authentication, can share email, calendars and other data with the user's Outlook (or other) desktop client. Email is delivered simultaneously to the desktop and the phone, and messages which are read, sent or deleted from the phone are mirrored in real time on the desktop, and vice-versa. Similarly, for users who allow other people to add appointments to their calendar, such changes are reflected immediately on the phone.

Which phones support OAuth 2.0-based authentication?

In all devices we recommend using the Outlook client on your device. It is maintained with security and integrates very well with our Microsoft 365 mail service.

Apple and Google have supported OAuth in their own mail applications under iOS and macOS and Android for several years:-

  • The Apple iPhone (which is available on the University's Vodafone contract).
  • Android phones

Which phone does IT Services support?

While any phone which supports OAuth 2.0 can be used to connect to Warwick's email servers, IT Services cannot support set-up and maintenance for all models. The handset we supply and support, therefore, is the Apple iPhone. Here are detailed instructions for how to set up your email on an iPhone, and on an iPad.
