Generous staff at the University of Warwick aided by the Coventry Foster Carers’ Association delivered a bumper load of presents to the Moathouse Centre in Wood End to be delivered to local children who are supported by Coventry Social Care and Children and Families First team over Christmas.

Fiona Linton, from the Mathematics Department at the University of Warwick and a member of the Coventry Foster Carers’ Association, said: ‘As a long term foster carer I am very aware of the difficulties that some families will face this Christmas in providing presents to their children- we have collected presents at the University of Warwick for the last eight years, but this has been by far the most we have ever managed to collect’

The present drop saw a large meeting room piled high with quality toys and gifts to be distributed by social workers on their visits to families who might otherwise struggle to give their children gifts over the festive period.

Cllr Ed Ruane, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, who also delivered a car-full of gifts to the centre from StudioCV34 Gym, said: “I’m grateful for the hard work and effort of Fiona Linton, her work colleagues, and the support of the Foster Carers’ Association to collect and drop off these wonderful gifts for some of the city’s most needy children.

“This is a cause close to all of our hearts and it’s incredible to see the overwhelming generosity of the staff at Warwick University and know that numerous Coventry children will be able to open up a present on Christmas Day because of their support.”

This year, the council has also worked alongside the ‘Santa’s Christmas Sack’ campaign to provide gifts from Coventry residents to give a gift to the city’s more vulnerable children along with donations from local businesses and City College Coventry.
