Due the Coronavirus pandemic you may be staying at home a lot more however there are plenty of volunteering opportunities you can take part in from the comfort of your own home.
We have pulled together a selection of different 'at home' opportunities from providing telephone support to individuals at risk of loneliness as a result of self-isolation to lending your eyes to help blind and low-vision people to solve tasks big and small.
Please bear in mind that these are all external opportunities and we advise volunteers to use their own judgement when selecting potential opportunities, and to check all details concerning prospective volunteering activity with the organisation involved.
Check in and Chat Volunteers
NHS Volunteer Responders has been set up to support the NHS and the care sector during the COVID-19 outbreak. To do this they need an 'army' of volunteers who can support the 1.5m people in England who are at most risk from the virus to stay well.
They are looking for 'Check in and Chat Volunteers' to provide short-term telephone support to individuals who are at risk of loneliness as a consequence of self-isolation.
Many people understandably are feeling anxious and concerned as a result of the pandemic. Carers feel this most of all as they are looking after some of the most vulnerable people in society.
Carers Trust are looking for volunteers who will make check-in calls to Carers and see how they are getting on. If Carers indicate that they would like further support, volunteers can then make referrals to Carers Trust Heart of England’s Befriending Service for ongoing phone calls.
Volunteers will be helping to meet the social needs of individual carers by checking on them and making sure that they feel supported during this time and providing a friendly chat over the phone. They will need to report all concerns to the volunteer co-ordinator.
We are looking for volunteers who will “buddy up” with a carer, offering a friendly voice and listening ear during these difficult times and help to reduce their feelings of loneliness and isolation.
The role involves meeting the social needs of individual carers by buddying up and reducing loneliness, providing a friendly chat over the phone and reporting any concerns to the volunteer co-ordinator.

A treasurer is required to provide general financial oversight to ensure that tasks such as record keeping, the following of procedures, and reports, accounts, and audits are being completed efficiently and in accordance with the law. The role can be carried out virtually, with the view to face-to-face meetings resuming when the crisis subsides. It would be beneficial for volunteers to have experience and knowledge of Business/Finance and be studying a relevant subject.
