WIHEA Masterclass - Mental Wellbeing in Higher Education: the challenges for academic staff

This masterclass will be delivered by Dr Ruth Caleb, Head of Counselling at Brunel University London, and will provide an opportunity to discuss student mental health and wellbeing, including the national context and the challenges for academic staff. It was organised by IATL’s Elena Riva with funding from the Warwick International Higher Education Academy (WIHEA).
IATL Senior Associate Fellow featured in THE article on crossing disciplinary boundaries
IATL Senior Associate Fellow and former Warwick staff member Matthew Broome has featured in a Times Higher Education article in which he talks of pursuing his interest in the works of Samuel Beckett alongside his main role of professor of psychiatry and youth mental health at the University of Birmingham.
Screening of the documentary Brotherhood

Funded through IATL's Student as Producer (Research) scheme, Brotherhood is a documentary which aims to start a conversation addressing the current narrative of the young black man, giving a voice to boys who have not previously been able to share their own narratives. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion about the film and the issues it raises.
IATL Workshop on Movement for Staff and Students

Open to all Warwick staff members and students, this workshop aims to establish an interdisciplinary discussion between academics and students on the basic ideas of ‘movement’, ‘motion capture’, and the ‘function’ of the human body. It will be informed by the student-focussed IATL Workshop on Movement held on 1 November 2017.

We are now accepting applications for an IATL/IAS (Institute of Advanced Study) Early Career Teaching Fellowship, which will be to develop interdisciplinary pedagogy. Application deadline: Monday 15 January 2018.
Launch of student research webpages funded by WIHEA
Colleagues from IATL, Student Careers and Skills and the Law School recently received WIHEA funding to bring together information about student research opportunities around the University. An institutional review was conducted and a student research hub on MyWarwick was created. The hub covers what research is, the benefits of getting involved, the opportunities available, and will soon be linked to opportunities within departments.
WIHEA Fellowships for IATL Academic Managers
IATL Academic Managers Jo Wale and Caroline Gibson are delighted to have been made WIHEA Fellows for 2017-2020. The role involves working with colleagues university-wide, helping embed good practice in learning and teaching and feeding into strategic projects. Caroline will be leading the WIHEA Internationalisation Learning Circle and would like to hear from other WIHEA Fellows interested in joining the group.
Performing Chemistry
This article - co-authored by IATL Deputy Director Jonathan Heron, Warwick colleagues Isolda Romero-Canelon (now at the University of Birmingham) and Peter J. Sadler, and Monash colleagues Felix Nobis and Christopher Thompson – has appeared in Education in Chemistry magazine, published by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Congratulations to Becky Fisher on her appointment as Departmental Administrator (Research, Finance and Operations) in Sociology, welcome to Hannah Copeland as Academic Projects Manager, and announcing that Elena Riva, one of our Teaching Fellows, is now our Director of Undergraduate Studies.
The fifth annual International Conference of Undergraduate Research (ICUR)
Photos of ICUR 2017, held 27 & 28 September, are now online; the conference covered a broad range of disciplines, connecting 100 Warwick students with 325 presenters from 10 institutions worldwide.
