Orientation Activities for WorldCUR-BCUR 2023 Delegates

We are looking forward to welcoming visitors from all over the world to the University of Warwick campus for WorldCUR-BCUR 2023. The University is ideally located on the border of the West Midlands and Warwickshire, providing easy access to the major cities of Coventry and Birmingham, and the beautiful historic towns of Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick, Kenilworth and Royal Leamington Spa.

Our Orientation Activities are organised events which will take place on Monday 3rd April. All the details and booking forms can be found below.

Orientation Activities

Stratford-upon- Avon Walking Tour

  • The walking tour passes a series of local landmarks including Shakespeare's Birthplace, whilst the guides tell fascinating stories of Stratford's history, and Shakespeare's life through fire, flood and plague with a smattering of old-fashioned sayings and medieval medical cures.
  • Date: Monday 3rd April
  • Duration of walking tour: 1h30 to 2h
  • Additional free time to explore Stratford-upon-Avon
  • Bus leaving Warwick University at 13.00, arriving at Stratford at 13.40
  • Meet at 17.00. Bus departs Stratford at 17.15 and arrives at Warwick University at 18.00
  • Price: £30

Stratford-upon-Avon

Stratford-upon-Avon developed along the banks of the River Avon to become one of the UK’s most popular tourist destinations. The birthplace of the playwright and poet William Shakespeare, it receives about three million visitors a year from all over the world. The Royal Shakespeare Company resides in Stratford's Royal Shakespeare Theatre, one of the country’s most important cultural venues.

Warwick Castle

  • This trip includes the entrance ticket to the magnificent Warwick Castle. The ticket allows entry into the castle and grounds, with the normal shows/tours such as the Falconers Quest Bird show and History team tours.
  • Date: Monday 3rd April
  • Duration: Flexible
  • Delegates can stay at the castle for as long as they would like and can then explore Warwick town if they choose
  • Bus leaving Warwick University at 11.00, arriving at Warwick Castle at 11.35
  • Meet at 16.45. Bus departs Warwick Castle at 17.00 and arrives at Warwick University at 17.40
  • Price: £48

Warwick

Warwick is Britain’s finest market town in the heart of England, where you will find ample shopping, restaurants and amenities. There is a wealth of architectural and historical interest, from the Lord Leycester Hospital to the magnificent Warwick Castle and its beautiful gardens.

Coventry Walking Tour

  • The Cathedral Quarter Walk will take place around the historical epicentre, featuring stories of kings, queens, cathedrals and castles, and showcasing some of the highlights of the city.
  • Date: Monday 3rd April
  • Duration of the tour: approximately 2h10
  • Additional free time to explore Coventry
  • WorldCUR-BCUR reps will leave Warwick University campus by bus at set times to arrive in Coventry city centre before the start of the tour. The tour begins at 13.50 in Broadgate, assembling between the Godiva statue and the clock.
  • Delegates will return to Warwick University campus with WorldCUR-BCUR reps or can stay in Coventry and return in their own time.
  • Price: £12 (plus bus fare to be paid by delegate on the day)

Coventry

Coventry offers a rich choice of culture and history, with a range of museums and galleries, including a world-famous cathedral, one of England's finest medieval guildhalls and a museum holding the world's largest display of British road transport. Coventry is also a place where visitors can relax, enjoy themselves and have fun, with shopping facilities, a bustling bar scene, a variety of entertainment venues and a global offering of world cuisines.
