Our support for Indian Farmers' unions

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have in the last few days announced the “Dilli Chalo” (“Lets Go to Delhi”) protest march which is supported by more than 200 farmers’ unions.

Their demands are simple:

•Guaranteed Minimum Support Price for all crops through legislation

•Strengthen the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme

•Reinstitute the old pension scheme for wider coverage

•Ensure pension and social security for all workers (formal and informal)

•Provide 300 units of power free of charge for each farmer, for both domestic and farming use

• Implement comprehensive crop insurance for better risk management

• Increase existing pensions to Rs. 10,000 per month

The University of Warwick UNISON Branch sends its full support to the farmers’ unions!

At our AGM on 19/02/2024, a few days before the protests began, we passed a motion on the campus food service. According to the motion, the Branch believes that

“From field to plate, food producers and providers should be valued, paid fairly, and provided with good working conditions”

Victory to the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha!
