A Birthday Party for the Forgotten Children

Thursday 26th November 2009

1pm

Meeting Room 6 (SUHQ)

People and Planet are hosting 'A Birthday Party for the Forgotten Children' as part of SHAW 2009.

In a short animated film about the Patent Pool (a scheme supported by UNITAID, UNICEF, Stop Aids Campaign etc) it is stated that 90% of the children living with HIV live in sub-Saharan Africa. Of these two million children, half of them will not live to see their 2nd birthday. The event on Thursday is a 2nd birthday party for the million forgotten children.

Please join us for jammy dodgers, pass the parcel, birthday cake and above all the opportunity to discuss the reasons why universal access to treatment is not yet a reality. The Patent Pool animation will be shown on Thursday and we will discuss its validity as a solution to the patent problem that exists today, pricing drugs out of reach for the world's poorest people.

We will think together about how best to urge our government to lead on this issue by supporting the pool.
