Bodleian Library Print Workshop

On Wed 2 November 2016 a group of students (undergraduates, MAs and PhDs) as well as staff visited the Bodleian Library for a print workshop. We were first shown a range of different types of print format from early modern Europe, enabling us to discuss issues about production, dissemination and consumption of print. We then had a 'hands-on' session learning how to set type - and learned in the process that the terms 'uppper case' and 'lower case' came from the compositor's cases of metal type from which he picked the appropriate letter! We then experimented with printing our efforts. As you will see, some of us were more successful with all this than others!
