Dissertations

This area provides a searchable repository of recently submitted MA and PhD dissertations and theses.

Each year there are many wonderful MA dissertations that aren’t available to others after they have been marked, even though they would be a useful resource for future students, both in terms of content and how to write a good research project. We are therefore proposing that MA students should be allowed to submit their dissertations for inclusion on a new research forum that the department is establishing. The scheme will be entirely voluntary; applicable to those that score 65 or over (though the mark will not be disclosed); and initially run as a pilot, for dissertations relating to the pre-1850 world. Students would have the option of restricting access to those within your own institution (if, say, they were planning to use their dissertation as the basis of a PhD) or opening them to the wider world. Either open or closed submission would create a pool of dissertations that future students could either refer to themselves or be referred to by supervisors. The dept would reserve the right to take down material if it was found to have breached copyright, or been plagiarised etc.

Please note that only documents submitted after September 2009 are included. Dissertations will be added to the site as soon as possible after the Exam Board has met each November.
