Poet's comments
I really wanted to try and capture the feelings an average knight might have during the period of the Second Crusade. By all means, God should be on the side of the Christians- the Pope himself says as much, and yet there are such terrible defeats handed down to them from a race they consider barbarian. The loss of self-confidence in the voice of the narrator throughout the poem was meant to portray this. The rhyme scheme also was meant to mirror the lilting tone a troubadour might have used at the time. (Krishan Emmanuel)
