Research Seminar: Prof. Lynne Joyrich (Brown University): ‘Reopening the Television Closet/Rethinking the Epistemology of the Console’
Framed through a consideration of the formations and logics of television—particularly of US television in the age of Trump—this talk examines the complex articulations and blurrings of the categories through which we think sexuality and identity, self and performance, secrecy and disclosure. Specifically, it uses the example of the program Batwoman as a case study to explore the "ins" and "outs" of these formations in an era that has (mistakenly, I argue) been labeled as both "post television" and "post closet."
