From 7-24^th March the Department of Classics and Ancient History will be hosting an exhibition called 'Black Classicists' which will on display in the FAB Agora throughout that period.

This Thursday 7^th at 12pm, Marc Ives the curator of the exhibition will be giving a short introductory talk about the exhibition in the FAB Agora.

Dear all,

Internationally renowned French Caribbean author and film director Dr Fabienne Kanor will be arriving at the University of Warwick to present a reading of her first monograph 'Poétique de la cale: variations sur la bateau négrier" (Poetics of the hold: variations of the slave ship). The hold of the slave ship becomes Kanor's muse as she explores questions of roots, identity, displacement and creative restitution of the many (hi)stories of slavery.

The readings will be in both French and English with a chance to ask questions to Fabienne in the session. The event will be on Tuesday 12^th March, 11:00-12:30 at the Junction JX 2.03 for Warwick staff and students, and online (Teams- link to be sent before event) for external delegates.

All (students at all stages and staff) are welcome to attend this event. The themes for the monograph will be particularly insightful for those interested in any of the following: postcolonialism, the transatlantic slave trade, race and identity, migration studies and diaspora studies. About the author:

Born in France to Caribbean parents, Dr. Fabienne Kanor is a Marian Trygve Freed Early Career Professor in the department of French and Francophone Studies and an Associate-Professor of French and Francophone Studies at the Pennsylvania State University. An award-winning writer and filmmaker, she has directed several movies and published 9 books, including among others D'eaux Douces (2004), Humus (2006), Je ne suis pas un homme qui pleure (2016), Louisiane (2020), La poétique de la cale : variations sur le bateau négrier (October 2022), a trans-disciplinary monograph in which she examines the way the experience of the Middle Passage is represented in contemporary literary, cinematographic and artistic productions of Francophone Africa, the French West Indies and the United States.
