Dionysus, the god of wine, fertility, and ritualistic madness amongst other things has returned to Thebes to avenge the slander by those who claim that they are not the son of Zeus. Dionysus, in disguise, attempts to prove to the King, Pentheus, that they were in fact born a god, and tragedy ensues.

Jessica Johnson's unique take on Euripides' Bacchae presents a clear link to the modern world, through the discussion of various themes from the developments of feminist theory, to immigration, and beyond.
