Maria Chiara Ranzolin is a PhD candidate at the University of Warwick’s Centre for the Study of the Renaissance (2026-2030). Her doctoral project, “Myths of Venice: Constructs of the Venetian Republic in Early Modern Italian and Neo-Latin Epic Poetry and Related Art (1571-1653)”, is supervised by Prof. Bryan Brazeau and Prof. Ingrid De Smet, and is fully funded by the Chancellor’s International Scholarship.
This project on the construct of Venice’s urban identity in Early Modern epic and related art aims to formulate for the first time an intermedial conceptual framework for Venetian epic, its themes and tropes, and to provide new insights into the evolution of epic/heroic poetry between c. 1571-1653, against the backdrop of visual artistic production and Venetian cultural history.
Maria Chiara obtained both her BA in Humanities (2022) and her MA in Modern Philology (2024) at the University of Padua. Her research interests include Early Modern epic, Early Modern Venetian literature, visual arts, and cultural history, as well as Early Modern women writers.
