Antiquity and its Uses: Reception and Renewal
Warwick’s Centre for the Study of the Renaissance and the Charles S. Singleton Center for the Study of Pre-Modern Europe at Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, USA) have established a programme of meetings, mutual visits, and exchanges (including both academic staff and PhD students) around the topic ‘Antiquity and its Uses: Reception and Renewal’.
This initiative draws on the interdisciplinary strengths of both institutions in fields such as History, English, Romance Languages, History of Art, Classics, Book History, and Near Eastern Studies.
The programme held its first event at Johns Hopkins on 4-5 April 2016. This two-day workshop, held on the beautiful premises of JHU's George Peabody Library in Downtown Baltimore, was immediately followed by an extended visit by the programme’s PI, Dr David Lines, at Johns Hopkins. Dr Earle Havens from JHU reciprocated the visit on 12-19 June 2016 (see the Staff Exchanges section for info).
Other events included a roundtable at the Annual Meeting of the Renaissance Society of America in Chicago (30 March-1 April 2017) and a workshop at Warwick on Monday 15th May 2017, which was held at St Mary's Guildhall in Coventry city centre. Full programme from the event can be found here.
