Event: Visually Expressive Directing Workshop A Masterclass with Toby Fell-Holden

We will look at visual directing techniques of expressive filmmakers to discuss, and watch BALCONY followed by a Q & A.

● Analysis and discussion of common techniques of visually expressive directors such as Scorsese, Kubrick, Lynne Ramsay, Hitchcock etc.
● Constructive criticism and group discussion of participants’ own short films or directing exercises in terms of shot choices.
● Screening of BALCONY short followed by Q&A discussion

Biography

Toby Fell-Holden is a British writer-director based between New York and London. He graduated from Columbia’s Film MFA and holds a B.A. in PPE from Oxford University. His short BALCONY played at over 100 film festivals and won a Crystal Bear at the 66th Berlinale, won the Iris Prize, was long-listed for the 2016 Academy Awards, and gained a nomination for Best British Short at the BIFAs. Toby is a Screen International Star of Tomorrow for 2016 and has been awarded fellowships from the Moving Picture Institute and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Toby is currently developing feature projects in both the UK and USA.
