Research for Writing

Convenor: Mr Tim Leach

Research for Writing is a compulsory short course for students on the Writing MA. Taught over several seminars in Term 1 and Term 2, the course aims to:

  • Acquaint students with the resources and materials available at the university via the Library and other sources
  • Ensure that students have the referencing and bibliographical skills for Masters level academic work
  • Explore the relationship between research and creative writing, and the many narrative opportunities that this presents.

Research for creative writing is often an unorthodox process, and synthesizing research material into fiction or poetry is an art all of its own. Students will be encouraged to develop both the academic rigor and the lateral imaginative thinking that will allow them to excel on the course.

Assessment is Pass/Fail, and does not contribute towards your final degree classification.
