Warwick’s Global Sustainable Development (GSD) course is now officially accredited by the Institute for Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA). is the global professional body for individuals and organisations working, studying or interested in the environment and sustainability. All of our nine undergraduate courses are now accredited by IEMA, meaning that our students receive a professionally recognised level of knowledge, skills and tools for working in sustainability practice.

As a student in GSD, you automatically receive a free student membership (see details below for joining) and upon completion of the course, will qualify for Graduate Membership of IEMA and the ability to use the GradIEMA title after your name. IEMA membership is increasingly a requirement for many international employers in sustainability and a valued qualification of professional competence, more generally. Graduate members can “Fast track” to Practitioner Membership (PIEMA) following successful completion of a work-based assessment of competence; notably, our recent graduate Maddie Booth, is a proud PIEMA!

With over 18,500 members worldwide, IEMA are the professional organisation at the centre of the sustainability agenda, connecting business and individuals across industries, sectors and borders. Membership also gives you the opportunity to network with other students and professionals within the environment and sustainability space. You can do this through regional events, the IEMA Futures network (the network for students, graduates and early-career professionals), and IEMA’s annual members-only conference. You can find out more about their networks and upcoming events on the IEMA website.
