Environmental Principles: Briefings and Policy Pitches
The assessment for our first year module Environmental Principles of Global Sustainable Development requires our students to research and present professional Policy Briefings. Our students also create an oral Policy Pitch: something to say to busy decision makers, during an opportune moment, as a way to promote interest in reading the written paper. They specify the ideal target as someone capable of making the recommended policy and practice changes as a way to think strategically about advocacy. Therefore, the Intended Learning Outcomes for the module are not just around subject knowledge of 'the human environment'. They also cover professional skills useful in contributing to socially positive change in the world. (Read and hear more about combining subject learning alongside skills as part of the mainstream curriculum here).
