IAS Funding and Fellowship Success for GSD Researcher!

The Associate Fellowship coincides with an IAS award of £4,500 to support the development of an interdisciplinary research project. Against the backdrop of global drug resistance, which is a top global health priority, Dr Haenssgen and his collaborators will host an interdisciplinary research proposal development workshop at Warwick University in March, and they will carry out preliminary qualitative research in Southeast Asia over the summer. Thus far, research and policy aiming to tackle drug resistance by reducing people’s dependence on antimicrobial drugs have emphasised on global awareness campaigns to change population behaviours. The research team will explore whether hardship and uncertain living conditions in low- and middle-income countries may undermine these initiatives, and whether broader sustainable development policies may have a role in complementing awareness-raising campaigns.
