GSD professor publishes research in prestigious humanitarian law journal
One of our GSD academics has seen his pivotal research on sexual violence published in a world-renowned humanitarian law, policy and action journal.
Dr Chris Dolan, who leads our popular undergraduate modules on Aid, Humanitarianism, Sustainable Development and International NGOs and Violence, Peace & Sustainable Development, recently saw his research on conflict-related sexual violence published in the International Review of the Red Cross (Cambridge University Press).
The article - titled Translating survivor-centredness into pedagogical approaches to training on sexual violence in conflict and emergency settings: A case study - was co-authored with Lucy Hovil of the Refugee Law Initiative (University of London) and Laura Pasquero from the Geneva Centre of Humanitarian Studies in Switzerland.
The published article aims to encourage further interrogation into the language surrounding “survivor-centredness” within conflict-related sexual violence, providing a case study demonstrating where efforts to integrate survivor-centred pedagogy within humanitarian worker training can help address sexual violence in conflict and emergency settings.
Set against the backdrop of a literature review of existing usages, it builds on key aspects of an earlier evaluation in which Chris and his co-authors were involved in different capacities.
The article is open access and can be read here.
