The School for Cross-faculty Studies is pleased to announce its Global Sustainable Development (GSD) bursaries for postgraduate taught students.

Two bursaries are available for students commencing the MASc in Global Sustainable Development in autumn 2025. There will be two categories of bursary:

  • £3,000 award for Home/UK tuition fee candidate.
  • £6,000 award for EU/Overseas tuition fee candidate.

The award will be automatically deducted from the winners' tuition fees.

Note that if you also qualify for the 10% alumni discount (available to all tuition fee categories) this discount will be in addition to the bursary.

Criteria

Awards are made on the basis of proven excellence, achievement, and future potential. Please note that we are unable to take financial needs into consideration.

Deadline

Candidates must apply to the University and have paid their application fee no later than Monday 16 June 2025 and must submit an application to the MASc programme before submitting a bursary application. Candidates need to apply for the bursary separately via the online form below. The closing date is midday (UK time) on Monday 16 June 2025.

We plan to inform successful applicants within three weeks from the closing date.

Hear from one of our 2021-22 MASc Bursary recipients

Daveena Saranna

"It really is an honour to have been chosen for this bursary! I have worked really hard for the past few years and having been with the department for my undergraduate degree meant that I was constantly inspired, challenged and supported to be the best, academically and professionally, that I could be.

The bursary has helped me so much with my finances, especially as postgraduate loans are smaller than their undergraduate counter parts. The Alumni Discount Scheme also ensured that the funding I did have could be used for my research and participating in university sports clubs."

What are your tips for applying for the bursary?

"Just do it! I truly applied on a whim, not thinking I would get it. It’s a good process to go through to improve professional skills but also makes you realise all of the wonderful things you’ve accomplished, which we tend to forget about!"

What have you enjoyed most so far about the MASc degree?

"Everything! I like how the degree balances breadth and depth of subjects well and allows us to collaborate with other students in such a unique way. The assessments have really prepared me for both work and future research and I would recommend this course to anyone looking to expand their skillset and learn about sustainability in the broadest sense."

What are your hopes for the future?

"I am applying for the PhD course with the department, as I’ve enjoyed the MASc so much and I feel like I am in the right place with the right people to continue my research."
