Civil Resistance: Belarus | 52m | Documentary (2023)
In 2020, in Belarus, there was a peaceful popular uprising after Europe's last dictator, Alexander Lukashenka, falsified the presidential election result to remain in power for a sixth consecutive term. Lukashenka violently repressed the opposition by using his security forces to arrest, torture and incarcerate thousands. But Lukashenka was unable to crush the people's spirit and yearning for democracy.
This documentary explores how Lukashenka rose to power after the demise of the Soviet Union, how he turned Belarus into a Russian satellite state - and how the Belarusian people courageously found a way to confront his ruthless authoritarian regime.
