Transcript: Languages Welcome from the Head of School

Hello, my name is Kate Astbury, I'm Head of the School of Modern Languages and Cultures. I want to introduce you briefly to the School today. We are made up of academic sections in French, German, Italian, and Hispanic Studies, as well as Translation Studies. This means that we have a huge range of options open to you. All our staff are passionate and enthusiastic about languages and want to share that love of other countries with you.

Our modules open up new ways of thinking, give you new opportunities, allow you to see the world differently. All our modules are cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary. We have modules that encompass history, politics, film, literature, philosophy, linguistics... so there's something for everyone. We also have a wide temporal spread as well, in that we have modules from the middle ages to the present day, and we don't just concentrate on Western Europe, but look at Latin America, Africa, the Far East, so there's a really broad range of periods, topics, critical approaches, that will allow you to see the world from a different perspective. I look forwards to seeing you on some of our modules.

Thank you, bye.
