Becoming an APP EXP Mentor or Assessor

APP EXP Mentors and Assessors

Warwick's Academic and Professional Pathway for Experienced Staff (APP EXP) provides staff with the opportunity to apply for all four categories of Advance HE fellowship. Participants are supported by an APP EXP mentor as they prepare their application. Once submitted applications are reviewed by a panel of APP EXP assessors and a decision is made as to whether the relevant criteria are met. APP EXP mentors and assessors are therefore crucial to the function and success of the pathway. This page offers information to those who are interested in becoming a mentor and/or assessor.

More about Assessing

APP EXP assessors sit on dialogic or written panels and are part of the APP EXP peer review process. They review applications against criteria and prepare feedback. Being an assessor is an excellent way of gaining further understanding of the PSF 2023 and thus may be a helpful role to undertake while preparing for a further fellowship application. Being an assessor is also an good opportunity to gain a wider perspective on teaching and supporting learning within the University. Experience gained could also contribute to a SFHEA or promotion application

More about Mentoring

Mentors meet individual participants at least twice, discuss potential evidence and support the completion of the APP EXP application form. Through engaging with the PSF 2023 participants are helped to link their own practice to the Dimensions of the Framework in a way that is relevant to their category of application. Being an APP EXP mentor is a great way to widen your network, develop professional skills and gain experience in educational leadership suitable for SFHEA or promotion applications.

A Dialogic Pathway

Professional learning take place through engaging in dialogue. APP EXP participants engage in dialogue about teaching and learning throughout their time on the pathway. Dialogue takes place in the introductory session, during mentoring meetings, in supportive network meetings, and during the application and feedback processes. Talking about teaching and learning enables the sharing of experience and practice and the opportunity to learn from one another. Thus dialogue is a necessary enabler in the pathway.
