CIM welcomes visitors to Warwick!
We welcome enquiries from established and early career academics and those working in government, industry or the third sector wishing to make long lasting connections with the Centre.
Format of visits
Visits may last for a few weeks up to six months full-time (or longer if part-time, for example, one day a week for a year) and are individually tailored. During your visit, you will be invited to engage with the Centre research environment by attending research seminars, Centre events and other activities. During your visit, normally you would be expected to contribute to some aspect of the Centre’s work, for example:
- Contributing to blogs, academic articles, grant proposals
- Developing curricula, teaching materials or running a masterclass
- Hosting or contributing to seminars, lectures and workshops.
Acceptance as a Visiting Scholar/Fellow confers some University privileges such as library access and email access, although the Centre does not always have office space. There are, however, workspaces across campus, including within the main University Library, which is a three-minute walk from the Centre. Please note that current PhD students are not normally eligible to apply to be University visiting fellows and are normally admitted to the Centre to collaborate as Visiting PhD Scholars - see below for details.
Opportunities for funded or supported visits
There are several opportunities to apply for funded or financially supported visits and collaborations. These are some examples, but other schemes may also be suitable:
- CIM Methods Fellowship
- Warwick Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS) Fellowships
- Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship
- British Academy Post-doctoral and Early Career Fellowships
- Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships
- Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE) – deadline to be confirmed but usually around April.
Non-Academics
The Centre especially welcomes enquiries from those working across government, industry and the third sector in the UK and internationally. We are keen to expand our network of contacts, so please get in touch to discuss possible ways of working together.
Application procedure
Postdoctoral scholars interested in visiting the Centre for a specific research purpose should directly contact the staff member(s) interested in that area. All other applicants should send a CV, a 1-page outline of what they will do during the visit. Applicants should explain how their interests intersect with those of the Centre and how their visit will be of mutual benefit. Enquiries should be made directly to the Director of Research & Impact, Professor Meg Davis, at Sara dot Davis at warwick dot ac dot uk.
PhD Visiting Scholars
CIM also welcomes invitations from doctoral candidates. Applicants should be part of a PhD program (or at an equivalent level, such as, in the fifth and final year of a Masters) in their home institution. Visiting students are defined as students who attend a university and receive advice and support through supervision, use of research facilities and attendance at research events. These students will receive no credit or qualification from the University of Warwick.
As a visiting CIM PhD scholar, you will have access to Warwick facilities (such as the library, computer access, etc.), and CIM desk-space where available so that you can conduct your PhD research while in residence. A letter of support from your host institution supervisor confirming that your proposed trip will contribute to your doctoral studies will be required. Visiting students typically come to Warwick for a period of up to 12 months and are not required to pay fees for the 2025-26 academic year. They can be based at any Higher Education Institution anywhere (including the UK). If you wish to apply, please make contact with the CIM PGR Director, Nerea Calvillo (Nerea.Calvillo@warwick.ac.uk) in the first instance. If your visit is approved by Nerea, you will need to apply via the University’s Postgraduate Admissions online application form.
Prospective and former students are always welcome to the Centre. Please contact the Centre Administrator, Sarah Doughty, for further information: Sarah dot K dot Doughty at warwick dot ac dot uk.
