Workshop on Foundations of Distributed and Parallel Graph Algorithms (Venice 2026)
The goal of the workshop is to bring together leading researchers working in various areas of the theory underpinning graph algorithms in distributed and parallel models such as LOCAL, CONGEST, LCA, MPC, PRAM. These models capture computations performed collaboratively by several processors, ranging from multi-core chips to large-scale networks such as the Internet. Efficient algorithms for graph problems in these models require a unique array of tools and techniques from a variety areas of algorithms and mathematics - which form the core of the technical focus of the workshop.
The planned format is to have talks by experts, scheduled sparsely to allow plenty of opportunities for discussion and collaboration. The workshop is by invitation only, and we expect around 40-45 participants, all to be staying for the entire workshop.
Location
The workshop will be held in Venice, Italy, May 18 - 21, 2026, starting on Monday morning and finishing on Thursday late afternoon. The venue is Warwick's center in Venice, housed in the Palazzo Giustinian Lolin, a seventeenth century Venetian Palazzo along the Grand Canal.
Arrangements
Arrival day is May 17, Sunday, with the workshop beginning on May 18 morning, and (provisionally) concluding late afternoon on May 21. There will be a registration fee, probably around £300, to cover the local costs, including all 4 lunches, 1 dinner, reception, coffee breaks, and the lecture hall.
All participants are responsible for their own accommodation during the workshop (see a list of hotels around the workshop site, as provided by local host).
Venice is not cheap and many hotel rooms are very small; we advise to book early; May is a very busy time in Venice.
Given the very special buildup of the main island of Venice, where the workshop is taking place, we advise you to not arrive too late at night; there are no regular taxis or buses that will bring you near most of the hotels, though likely one could use (more expensive) water-taxis. See our Local information page for more information.
The workshop is by invitation only
