Research Infused Curriculum
Support for Research- Infused Curriculum
Students on IATL’s modules lead their own learning, pursuing independent inter- and trans- disciplinary research. On our modules, students bring together disciplinary viewpoints, in an inquisitive learning approach that leads to new ideas and questions. By building bridges across and beyond disciplines, you will be encouraged to excel in your research through meaningful connections between diverse fields. Not only will this enrich your academic journey and broaden your perspectives, but you will contribute to a dynamic culture of student-led research. In synergy with collaboration among disciplines, IATL’s views student research as essential to tackling the complex challenges facing our world.
In order to foster the success of this forward-thinking research culture, IATL has created a robust system to support students in pursuing their curiosities and interests, offering skills workshops, and information on writing and submitting abstracts, the ethics process, assessments and research dissemination.
IATL’s skills workshops will enhance your ability to articulate your research clearly and persuasively, building your writing skills, as well as your knowledge on ethics and interdisciplinary methods. Our streamlined ethics process allows you to swiftly undertake your research with confidence. We provide you with all the necessary documents to carry out research with human participants, such as consent forms and Participant Information Leaflets.
Your research will naturally lead into assessments designed to engage your unique interests. You’ll have considerable flexibility in presenting your work through alternative assessment options, such as the Student Devised Assessment (SDA).
A core component of all assessments on IATL modules is the distillation of your inter- and trans- disciplinary research into an abstract that not only showcases your ability to synthesise complex ideas across disciplines and different forms of knowledge, but communicate to non-specialist and interdisciplinary audiences. This abstract will serve as a spring-board to disseminate your research.
IATL believes in cultivating a rich culture of sharing student research, and thus offers you the ability to directly submit your abstracts through a variety of platforms to engage with a wider audience such as the IATL Assessment Exhibition, ICUR, and Reinvention.

Writing an abstract is a core component of every IATL module. Your abstract is a synthesised version of your inter-,trans-disciplinary research that communicates your ideas clearly and succinctly to an interdisciplinary audience. Find out more about what the abstract is, why it is important, and how to submit.
Research Dissemination
IATL ensures that students are able to showcase and disseminate the effort that they have put into their research contributions. Students can do so through various means, such as contributing their abstracts to IATL’s Assessment exhibition, publishing in Reinvention: An International Journal of Undergraduate Research, and presenting at the International Conference for Undergraduate Research (ICUR).
