'Objects in Translation' event at National Gallery of Victoria

MITN were proud to co-sponsor the panel discussion, ‘Objects in Translation’ which was held on Tuesday May 3rd at the National Gallery of Victoria. Presentations and discussion with the audience focused on the opportunities and challenges involved in telling history the study of objects and material culture.

Panel members:

Mattew Martin, Curator (International Decorative Arts and Antiquities - NGV)

Giorgio Riello (Director of the the Warwick Institute of Advanced Study and Professor of History at Warwick University)

Anne Gerritsen (Professor of History at Warwick University and Kikkoman Chair in Asian-Europe Intercultural Dynamics at the University of Leiden)

Peter McNeil (Professor of Design History at the University of Technology Sydney)

Following the panel, the book “Luxury: a Rich History” written by Peter McNeil and Girogio Riello was launched by James Bennett, curator of Asian Art at the Gallery of South Australia.
