Electricity and Power Plugs in Vietnam
Vietnam uses a standard electrical supply of 220V at a frequency of 50Hz. However, some older buildings or facilities may still use 110V systems. International participants are advised to check the voltage requirements of their devices before use.
Common Plug and Socket Types in Vietnam
Type A
-
Two flat parallel pins,
-
Commonly used in North America and Japan,
-
Found in some hotels and buildings in Vietnam.
Type C
-
Two round pins (Europlug),
-
Most common plug type in Europe and widely used in Vietnam,
-
Frequently available in hotels, conference venues, and residential buildings.
Type D
-
Three round pins arranged in a triangular shape,
-
Less common, but may still be found in older buildings and facilities in some areas of Vietnam.
Do you need a travel adapter?
Participants may need a travel adapter depending on their country of origin:
- Europe (most countries): Usually compatible with Type C sockets,
- United Kingdom, Singapore, Hong Kong: Adapter required,
- United States, Canada, Japan: May require an adapter and users should check voltage compatibility,
- Australia/New Zealand: Adapter required.
Voltage Compatibility
Please check your charger or device label before use:
Input: 100–240V, 50/60Hz
- Compatible in Vietnam,
- Only a plug adapter is required.
Input: 110–120V only
-
A voltage converter may be necessary to avoid damaging the device!
Recommendations for International Participants
- Bring a universal travel adapter,
- Check your device specifications before plugging in,
- Keep a power bank for convenience during travel,
- Sensitive electronic equipment may benefit from surge protection.
