Q&A for AAMAS 2027 Submission and Review Process

The 26th International Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems

On this page we, the programme chairs of AAMAS-2027, will try to respond to frequently asked questions by both authors and members of the programme committee. The latter includes regular PC members, senior PC members, and area chairs. If you have a question not (yet) addressed here or in the Call for Papers, then you are very welcome to contact us: aamas2027pcs@gmail.com.

1. Does AAMAS 2027 have extended abstracts this year?

No. This year, AAMAS 2027 does not have extended abstracts. Instead, we have Findings [see detailed information here]. Findings are not extended abstracts. They are full-length, high-quality peer-reviewed papers whose contribution is valuable, citable, and relevant to the conference community, but typically narrower, more focused, more exploratory, or less mature than Full Papers. Papers selected for findings will be published in the Findings of AAMAS 2027 under CC-BY license.

2. Can I include an appendix beyond the 8-page limit?

No. An appendix included in the main paper is considered part of the paper and therefore counts towards the 8-page limit. Appendices do not provide additional pages beyond the standard page limit.

Additional material, such as extended proofs, further experimental details, code, datasets, or other supporting information, may instead be included as supplementary material. Please note that reviewers are not required to consult supplementary material. Therefore, all information that is essential for understanding and evaluating the paper must be included in the main 8-page submission.

3. What should I do if I used an AI-assisted technology but did not retain the exact prompts or model version?

Do not reconstruct or guess information that was not retained. Instead, disclose this explicitly and provide the most accurate information available, including the AI tool or model family used, the purpose and nature of the interaction, and which parts of the work were affected. Where the exact model version or prompts are not known, this should be stated clearly. For any subsequent use of AI-assisted technologies covered by the AAMAS 2027 disclosure policy, authors should retain the relevant prompts and model/version information.

4. What should I report if my use of an AI-assisted technology involved an extended multi-turn conversation?

Where records are available, authors should report the relevant prompts or conversation history and explain how the interaction contributed to the work. If complete records are not available, authors should provide an accurate description of the interaction and clearly state which information was not retained. Authors should not reconstruct or invent exact prompts that were not retained.

5. Can I post my AAMAS 2027 submission on arXiv or another preprint server?

Yes. Posting a paper on a preprint server such as arXiv does not count as publication in an archival venue and is therefore permitted. However, the paper must not be simultaneously submitted to another archival venue while it is under review at AAMAS 2027. Please see the Submission Instructions for the full policy on dual submission.

6. When must the reciprocal reviewer be nominated and when must they accept?

The reciprocal reviewer must be designated in OpenReview by the abstract submission deadline (1 October 2026, Anywhere on Earth). If the submission qualifies for an exemption, the applicable exemption must also be declared by that deadline. Nomination alone is not sufficient. At least one qualified designated reciprocal reviewer must accept the AAMAS 2027 Reviewer invitation in OpenReview by the paper submission deadline (8 October 2026, Anywhere on Earth). Authors are encouraged to ensure that the designated reviewer accepts as early as possible so that they can participate fully in paper bidding.

7. What commitment does a reciprocal reviewer make by accepting the invitation?

Accepting the Reviewer invitation entails a commitment to complete the reviews assigned by AAMAS 2027, including the required post-rebuttal acknowledgment. As stated in the Reciprocal Reviewer Policy, failure of a designated reciprocal reviewer to complete their assigned reviews may result in rejection of the associated submission.

8. What happens if no reciprocal reviewer has accepted by the paper submission deadline?

A submission for which no qualified reciprocal reviewer has accepted by the acceptance deadline, and for which no valid exemption applies, may be desk-rejected.

9. Can I change the reciprocal reviewer after the abstract submission deadline?

No, except when there is a reasonable justification and the change is approved by the Program Chairs. For example, a change may be appropriate if the originally designated reviewer is no longer an author of the submission, becomes unable to serve, or another justified circumstance makes the original nomination no longer appropriate. Authors should contact the Program Chairs promptly in such cases.

10. Does the reciprocal reviewer need to complete the Reviewer Registration form?

Reciprocal reviewers are strongly encouraged to complete the Reviewer Registration form, as the information collected there is used for paper matching and assignment. However, failure to complete the Registration form is not by itself grounds for desk rejection of the associated submission.

11. Can I change the submission metadata after the abstract deadline?

In line with the approach used for AAMAS 2026, submission metadata that are central to reviewer assignment and conference administration should not be changed in any substantive way after the abstract deadline. This includes the title, abstract, author list, subject areas/topics, and reciprocal-reviewer information.

Minor editorial corrections to the title or abstract, and corrections to the ordering of authors, are permitted. Authors should not add or remove authors, substantially change the title or abstract, or change the subject classification after the abstract deadline.

The paper PDF and supplementary material may still be uploaded or updated until the October 8 full-paper deadline (AoE).
