Day 3:

Once again we were left to ourselves during the morning. We wandered around the streets nearby hoping not to get lost. On this journey we saw the first slightly overweight person since arriving. This little girl’s father was clearly not impressed, forcing her to run alongside him on a motorbike in the midday heat. Every time she slowed, he sped up, revving his engine and beeping. Tough love! (See first picture).

Venturing out the campus to the nearby town we passed a train track. With the barriers of the level crossing closing, all the cars sped up determined not to be stopped. A bit of a risky option!

When a few members of the team came to pick us up, they insisted on us getting a ride in a bike towed cart, as the workshops are quite far away. This was horribly embarrassing as what looked like a skinny 14 yr old boy was forced to pull along two heavy British tourists sat comfortably in the back. He was clearly ecstatic with his effort though and grinned ear to ear with his 20p tip.

In the workshop we got involved designing and making a jig to be used for welding their suspension. With time running out to complete the car, rapid manufacture is essential. They were impressed with our suggestions which should be put to use later this week when the parts arrive. Whilst we were in the workshops other manufacturing was also taking place. Again the lack of H&S was amazing, with two guys grinding in flip flops and no safety goggles. This seems standard practice.

In the evening they arranged a football game with around 20 people joining in. The makeshift sand and tree scattered pitch was surrounded by their accommodation with loads more people watching from balconies. We really enjoyed the game and made loads more friends outside of the FS team. Somehow we played for a couple of hours in the intense heat leaving us tired and in dire need of a shower before bed.
