Day Two
Due to poor internet connections, here is Wednesday's post a little late!
Final operator training was underway today at the second and final of the set-up days at the RoboCup German Open. This morning we got the mapping up and running on the old robot, which until now only worked on the new one. We also successfully manipulated planks to a clear an obstacle course and spotted our first victim with our infrared camera!
The WMR team is the first to implement an Oculus Rift virtual reality goggles, along with the included head tracking to control the robot, so it is looking positive for the new ‘Innovative User Interface Award’ being awarded for the first time this year. We have also been doing some physical testing with our new robot design, with its lightweight modular robotic architecture. It is easily deployable by a single person, and is small enough to take advantage of the newly introduced course shortcuts that will save valuable time in future competitions. The main competition starts tomorrow, and we cannot wait!
