Autonomous Mower
About
The overall aim of this project is to develop an autonomous vehicle for grass cutting tasks. High precision GPS was identified as an ideal technology for this application, but the receivers popular in the literature were deemed too expensive, motivating investigation into achieving high precision results using low-cost receivers.
The project‘s industrial sponsors supplied a ride-on greens mower as a test vehicle; this has been modified to be controlled by a computer, and it has been fitted with low-cost GPS and, a safety system, and additional sensors to gather data for other researchers. Control software has been devised, allowing the test vehicle to follow preplanned paths using GPS feedback control.
