Undergraduate wins IStructE award

Chris Goodwin (currently a 4th year MEng Civil Engineering student) was invited by the IStructE (Institution of Structural Engineers) to give a presentation on his third year research project in November. The project entitled ‘Performance of steel connections between I-section beams and hollow section columns’,examined, through computer simulations, the response of the connections to various loads placed upon them. The simulations were made using industry standard ABAQUS software and have real-world applications.

Chris collected his award at the IStructE Lancashire and Cheshire inaugural meeting on 17 January. His prize included a selection of text books, which will prove of immense value as he begins his career.
