Student runner-up in IET Young Entrepreneurs Challenge 2013

Arnesh Vijay IET competitionPostgraduate research student Arnesh Vijay beat stiff competition to be awarded second prize in the recent IET Young Entrepreneurs Challenge 2013.

The inter-university competition, organised by the IET Birmingham network group, saw contestants representing universities from around Birmingham and the Midlands to compete for a cash prize.

The young entrepreneurs were asked to present a business plan for an imaginary start-up company to a group of potential investors, industry experts and audience. Participants had to demonstrate their knowledge of entrepreneurship skills and aim at realising the innovative knowledge practice or product.

Arnesh’s presentation entitled ‘Lighting solutions with intelligent lighting transmitters (ILT) for wireless data access’ was praised by the judges for product innovation and the potential for financial investment.

The event was attended by around 50 members of the IET both from the industry and academia, alongside members of the public. First place was awarded to a PhD student from the University of Birmingham.
