School of Engineering Professor awarded prestigious IET Achievement Medal

Professor Christopher James FIET was awarded the Sir Monty Finniston Award for Achievement in any field of Engineering and Technology at the IET Achievement Awards Ceremony on Wednesday 20 November. The ceremony was hosted by Liz Bonnin; biochemist, wild animal biologist and television presenter.

Professor James has been an outstanding promoter of the biomedical engineering profession both within the UK and worldwide. He has successfully demonstrated excellent leadership throughout his academic career, both through internationally renowned research contributions and scientific publications, as well as tremendous volunteer efforts to various international professional bodies, including the IET and IEEE. Professor James has shown a particular affinity towards students and biomedical engineering trainees, which he has continuously and vividly demonstrated through numerous outreach activities for children, career enhancing events for undergraduate and postgraduate students, and reward through personal dedication of a prize for young professionals in biomedical engineering.

About the awards

The IET Achievement Medals are awarded to individuals who have made major and distinguished contributions in the various sectors of science, engineering and technology.

The judging panel looks for outstanding and sustained excellence in one or more activities, for example, research and development, innovation, design, manufacturing, technical management, promotion of engineering and technology.
