Engineering PhD students win best presentation and poster prizes

Many congratulations Ms Torgyn Shaikhina and Ms Yan Zhang, who were recognised by the top awards at the [id]2Ox inter-disciplinary inter-DTC Student Conference Oxford, which took place on 26-27 June, 2014. Torgyn was awarded “Best Oral Presentation Prize” sponsored by AstraZeneca and Eli Lilly for her talk on "Predicting mechanical strength of trabecular bone in severe osteoarthritis using neural networks". Yan won “Best Poster Prize Runner-up” for her poster titled ‘Stochastic modelling of subcutaneous glucose concentration after meals’.

[id]2Ox is an annual postgraduate conference run by students for students and this year it attracted over 80 participants in a range of Life Sciences and Engineering fields unified under the common theme: “Unravelling complexity in the life sciences: new approaches to biological question”.

Both Torgyn and Yan are supervised by Dr Natasha Khovanova and they are in the School's Biomedical Modelling group.
