HetSys  is a newly established EPSRC-supported Centre for Doctoral Training. It recruits enthusiastic students from across the physical sciences who enjoy using their mathematical skills and thinking flexibly to solve complex problems.

By developing these skills HetSys trains people to challenge current state-of-the-art in computational modelling of heterogeneous, ‘real world’ systems across a range of research themes such as nanoscale devices, new catalysts, superalloys, smart fluids, laser-plasma interactions, functional composites etc.

HetSys is the first CDT to explicitly target the modelling of heterogeneous systems required by industry and academia, with models implemented in robust and reusable software that produces error bars on all outputs using uncertainty quantification. The CDT involves the Departments of Chemistry, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics and WMG who jointly train students in integration of a diverse range of modelling methods, in uncertainty quantification, and in sustainable software development. HetSys students are equipped with a broad skillset to be ready to move into a range of careers in science and engineering.

Intermediate year undergraduates are also welcome to come along to find out about opportunities for URSS-style summer research projects with the HetSys team.

You can find out more about HetSys including details of upcoming PhD projects on our website athttps://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/hetsys or by contacting us via hetsys@warwick.ac.uk
