PhD Title: Multiscale modelling of precipitation strengthening in superalloys

Supervisors: Dr Peter Brommer (School of Engineering) and Prof. Julie Staunton (Department of Physics)

About me

Before joining HetSys, I completed a BSc in Mechanical Engineering and an MSc in Nanotechnology at the American University in Cairo (AUC). My master's project consisted of a computational study of High Entropy Alloys (HEAs), in which I used a combination of computational thermodynamics and first principles approaches to study the phase stabilities and mechanical properties of HEAs.

PhD Research

For my PhD research, I am studying precipitation strengthening in Ni-based superalloys. These are excellent materials for high-temperature applications due to their microstructures, in which nanoscale precipitates hinder dislocation motion and strengthen the material. The main focus of my project is to better understand how variations in precipitate properties affect the mechanical properties of Ni superalloys using a multiscale approach.
