Mathematical Foundations

Mathematical and computational models for materials and fluids as well as the field of uncertainty quantification build on sophisticated mathematical techniques, including for example aspects of nonlinear partial differential equations, numerical analysis, approximation theory, calculus of variations, optimisation, inverse problems, multi-scale analysis. “Mathematical Foundations” projects will identify significant open problems in state-of-the art modelling and computing methodology in connection with the HetSys CDT and contribute to tackle them using primarily theoretical mathematical techniques.

Potential supervisors (non-exhaustive list): Andreas Dedner, Tobias Grafke, Thomas
