Patricia Medina Capilla

I'm a third year PhD student, under the supervision of Adam Thomas and Gareth Tracey. My main interests are in group theory, specifically the generation of finite groups. My main PhD project aims to bound the number of generators of the second maximal subgroups of the almost simple groups, using the method of crowns developed by Lucchini and Dalla Volta.

Education

I completed my MMath degree at the University of Warwick. My research project was on the 2-generation of finite simple groups, supervised by Adam Thomas.

Papers

"Finite groups with the minimal generating set exchange property" 2025, joint with Andrea Lucchini, https://arxiv.org/abs/2506.01638
