Teaching and Learning notice board New HEA Research and Policy Seminar/Webinar series

  1. *Announcement from HEA* We are delighted to welcome Vicky Gunn, from Glasgow University, to help launch our 2013/14 seminar/webinar series. Vicky will be considering ‘teaching excellence in higher education’ in the context of the research review of excellence in teaching and learning she has recently undertaken on behalf of the HEA, and in consideration of our overall research theme on the impact of the shifting UK HE landscape on learning and teaching. The event will take place on *Tuesday 8th October*, as part of the HEA's special event, “Pride in professionalism: A showcase of HEA support for learning and teaching excellence in Scotland”, at the Dovecot Studios, Edinburgh. The overall theme for the 2013-14 HEA research and policy seminar/webinar series is concerned with the impact of the shifting higher education landscape on learning and teaching. We are delighted to be able to offer the following events as part of this series: • *12 November 2013* - Higher education for the future: flexible pedagogies that empower learners for complexity, uncertainty and change, Daniella Tilbury and Alex Ryan, University of Gloucestershire • *10 December 2013* - Curriculum reform initiatives in higher education, Ann Pegg, The Open University • *11 February 2014* - Surveying student engagement in the UK, Alex Buckley, Higher Education Academy • *11 March 2014* - Evaluating the impact of student number controls, choice and competition on the student profile and learning environment, Carol Taylor and Colin McCaig, Sheffield Hallam University • *8 April 2014* - Student approaches to learning in contemporary higher education: implications of reforms across the UK, Michael Tomlinson, University of Southampton • *6 May 2014* - Examining difference, in/equity and diversity in teaching and learning, Jacqueline Stevenson, Leeds Metropolitan University and Penny-Jane Burke, University of Roehampton • *10 June 2014* - Two years on: the impact of the higher education reforms on learning and teaching, and future challenges, Geoff Stoakes, Higher Education Academy Higher Education professionals are warmly invited to attend our events, either in person at the seminar in our York offices, or online via our Blackboard Collaborate Webinar.
